Mabon (Autumn Equinox) Activity - A Warm Welcome

Mabon, or the Autumn Equinox, is a time of balance. It is a moment in time when the day and night are of equal length, and we can pause for a moment to reflect on the balance within our lives and nature. The only other time of the year when this happens is Ostara, or the Spring Equinox, and it is wonderful to take a moment at these points on opposite sides of the Wheel of the Year to reflect on how far we have come, and what we wish to achieve in the coming months.

Despite being a time of gentle withdrawal and quietude as the nights draw in and the weather turns cool, Mabon is still a time for celebrating and focusing on those things we may not do the rest of the year. The longer evenings give us time to start or continue projects which may have been pushed aside during the busy Summer months. And the coming of Samhain (Halloween), Guy Fawkes (in the UK), Thanksgiving (in the US), and Yule and Christmas mean there is plenty of joy yet to come.

Many of these things will be done in the comfort of your own home, either alone or with family and friends. So why not spend some time during this Mabon to create a welcoming feature for your home. If you've got guests arriving, think how much warmer their welcome will be with a wreath on the door, a candle in the window, or the tinkling of chimes as you open the door. And even if it's just for you, how nice will it be to open the door and smell the scent of warming spices from a pomander, or to hang your keys next to a picture that fills your heart with joy?

We're looking forward to creating something this weekend, and I've been looking through Pinterest for inspiration. I've saved some of my favourites onto a board and I hope that it will give you some inspiration too. Do let us know if you make anything, we'd love to see your creations!
